Leave a trail.
In the early 1800’s Meriweather Lewis and William Clark made a famous expedition to discover the way to the western United States. Over a hundred years later we are able to trace this famous journey because they left a journal of where they went and what they saw.
Your business is on a journey too. It is very important, not only to trace its journey but also to scout ahead and to know how to make decisions about where to go next so make a record of it. It is necessary for avoiding the sharks and pirates (more about them later) that it be done but most of all it is for you. This is where I am, this is where I have been, this is the map of my journey. If you can’t keep track of details get someone who can. It is absolutely crucial to do this.
Does this map need to be beautifully drawn and accurate to the tiniest detail? It could be and with some people it is but even a crude drawing that is written down can give the most important details. What matters the most is that it does get written down not who does it or what you write it on or where you keep the record. If not you are heading into a wilderness with unseen dangers with no map.
